What are the different forms of “The Word of God” ?

Here is a brief description of chapter 2 from my ‘Systematic Theology,’ book by Wayne Grudem, second edition.

A. The Bible sometimes refers to “The Word of God,” as the Son of God. (Revelations 19:13)

B. “The Word of God”: As speech by God’s decree. Sometimes God’s word takes the form of powerful decrees that cause events to happen or things to come into being. (Genesis 1:3 “Let there be light.”)

C. God’s word of personal address: God speaks to Adam directly. God gives His people the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20:1-3)

D. God’s words as speech through human lips: In scripture, God raises up prophets through whom he speaks. For example, God tells Jeremiah, “Whatever I command you, you shall speak.” (Jer. 1:7, Ex. 4:12, Num. 22:38).

God’s words spoken through human lips were considered authoritative and just as true as God’s words of personal address. God’s word as spoken through human lips ceased to be given when the New Testament canon was complete.

E. God’s word in written form: God places His words in written form. For instance, the two tablets of the Ten Commandments. Further writing was done by Moses, Joshua, Jeremiah, etc. In the New Testament, Jesus promises his disciples that the Holy Spirit would bring to their remembrance the words which He spoke. (John 14:26) God’s Word is authoritative and true.

Benefits of the written word: It is a more accurate preservation of God’s word for generations to come. Reciting it by memory and saying it orally doesn’t allow for intentional study of the word.

Releasing the Kingdom of God

By Jennifer Moreno

In our day to day routine it’s easy to get caught up. As Christians who know the Word of God and know its power, we must stand still and remember what power and authority we have as children of the light. There will be times when your heart tugs at you and doesn’t let you continue with what you were about to do because the Lord wants you to stop and see who you can release His power to. Can you imagine the kind of change we can create if only you stopped to see who needs prayer? Who needs salvation? Who needs healing? Who needs an encouraging word? Truly it would be heaven on earth if his Kingdom people did His work.

In my walk with Christ i’ve learned to listen to Him and ask Him what His will is today or what His will at the moment. Always ask God who He wants to highlight for you and let Him use you. It’s not about ability, but availability in the Kingdom of God. Are you available to do God’s work here on Earth? Ultimately that is what He wants? It’s not enough to just proclaim that you are saved, but God wants you to give him a return on his investment.

The parable of the Talents in Matthew 25:14-30 could not be any more clearer.

“For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. 15 To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. 16 He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more…”

You can read it more in depth during your quiet time. But the purpose of this parable is to show you that the master is Jesus, He is the one entrusting you with talents, finances, His word and so much more. It doesn’t even matter if He gives you much or little, the question is what are you going to do with it? Will you complain that God gave more talents to others and you didn’t have enough? Or will you use what God gave you to advance His kingdom?

It’s important to note that God won’t give you more if you can’t handle the little He Has given you. He won’t give you more if He can’t entrust you with enough responsibility with the little He has given you. We have to step into our rightful place and let God use us.

It’s time for this generation to step into their rightful place. Take a hold of what God has given you and give Him a return on his investment. This world won’t change nor be transformed until you step into your rightful place, it’s not about a platform of you glorifying yourself, it’s about Him and not us. We have to pursue for more of Him and less of us.

He has called us for greater things. So today, surrender to Him and become a vessel for Him. Don’t put what God has given you in your pocket and leave it there. Say yes to the task at hand, say yes to the assignment.

Let your will be done Lord and not ours.

God bless you and may His grace shine upon you! Amen
