In the wake of the Las Vegas shooting last night, I’m truly at a loss for words. Just seeing the image below is difficult and heartwrenching, and incredibly devastating. It brings me to tears just looking at this photo. A gunman fired shots, killing 50 people and injuring about 400 others during a country music festival. Brothers and sisters, these types of stories are recurring more often now and it’s an indication that Jesus is returning soon. As cliche and redundant as it may sound, scripture is being fulfilled.
When I think of this disaster, the first Bible verse that comes to mind is Matthew 24:12, which states the following: “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.” It is happening right before our eyes and we need to have our lamps filled with oil, ready for His return. We’re all hurting as we see this happen, but Jesus said, “See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.”
“All of these things are the beginning of sorrows…those who endure to the end shall be saved,” said Jesus. So what do we do in the meantime as all of this happens? What can we do as followers of Christ? All we can do is preach the gospel to people and remind them that there is a savior who died on the cross for their sins so that they can have eternal life. We can pray for more people to come to the feet of Jesus. Pray that Jesus will comfort those families who have lost a relative or a friend. And pray that the Holy Spirit will bring them to salvation, by pursuing their hearts. Friends, the Holy Spirit pursues people’s hearts for a time, but we’ve been entrusted to do that as well.
Today, take a moment to pray to our heavenly Father in Heaven and ask Him to send more workers into the field to pick up the harvest. What do I mean by that? The body of Christ needs to be at work, but the workers are few. May you be that person that rises today and helps me share the love of Christ with someone. Our days are numbered and we have an allotted time on this earth to make this decision: choosing between life or death in the Spirit.
May your lamp be filled with oil, stay connected to the Lord and remember to take heed to the words of Jesus. I’ll end this with Jesus’ words, “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
God bless you.
