Letting Go of Hurt

There is no question that in this life we will experience hurt from people, but we especially feel the pain when it comes from close family members. Sometimes you will be cut off or even hated without a cause. We can take comfort in the fact that Jesus experienced this as well and you are not alone. John 15:25 says, “But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason.'” As you can see, Jesus was hated for speaking the truth, He made the religious Pharisees feel uncomfortable and essentially was ruining their agenda. In those moments of grieving, sadness, and helplessness… remember to pray and ask God to give you the strength to love without receiving it in return. For God so loved the world He gave His only son to die for us to give us everlasting life. Think about that for a second and realize how Jesus understands your situation. All we can do is forgive them…. because they really do not know what they are doing. They may cut you off, they may even be Christian themselves and still not know the meaning of grace or forgiveness, they themselves need to accept the grace God has given them. But you who are more mature in the faith, you need to let God work in you and teach you to be patient with them. Yes, keep your boundaries but also keep your door of grace open. Remember the prodigal son, remember how the father received his son with open arms. Jesus’ grace is sufficient and he wants you to know that you are not alone. Keep in mind that God is with you and He sees your pain, He is working on your behalf. Isaiah 41:10 – “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
