When I was brought low, He saved me

By Jennifer Moreno

Times of trial and hardship are bound to come in this life and knowing this reality sometimes causes us to want to run and hide. This reality wasn’t a surprise to God, He himself said this during His ministry here on earth to advise us what to expect.

In John 16:33 Jesus said “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

The good news is that He has overcome the world and we can be sure that He is with us, “Emmanuel” is with us. Trials are survivable, 2 Corinthians 4:7-18 says the following: “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.”

When we face trials in our lives, we can either let it absorb us completely or we can keep our eyes on Jesus and remember that “this too shall pass.” God knows exactly what is happening in your life and He also weeps with you, whether what is happening is fair or not, His hand and provision is always over your life no matter what. Romans 8:28 reminds us “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

The apostle Paul is a great example of suffering and endurance, He suffered many trials for the cause of Jesus Christ. But instead of weeping, He rejoiced and counted it all joy. How difficult must it be to have that kind of mentality while you’re being persecuted, imprisoned, face angry mobs, calamities of every kind, and going without food. But I have no doubt that Paul spoke like this because his eyes were set on Jesus Christ, whom gives us strength. (Phillippians 4:13)

God’s power is displayed in our weakness and when we’re weak we are strong, like Paul recognized. Paul never boasted about how strong he was during his time of weakness, but instead showed us how God gave him strength. We can see from his testimony that we are able to endure great trouble and have inner strength in Christ.

If you’re going through something difficult, painful or unbarring now, take a moment to praise the Lord in song and His merciful love and comfort will come over you.

Isaiah 38:20 – “The LORD will surely save me; So we will play my songs on stringed instruments All the days of our life at the house of the LORD.”

God bless you all!
