The more I mature in messiah, the more I understand that it is not about me but it is all about the powerful I AM.
Sometimes when I am outside pondering on creation and the infinite wisdom that created this world, I feel an overall sense of confidence, peace, and encouragement. I feel uplifted to know that the Lord most high is so cool. He’s the one who created galaxies, planets, and solar systems and he is such a kind gentleman that he even sets time apart just for me to have intimate conversations with me.
I used to think G-d was too big for me to grasp and that he could not possibly have time for a broken individual like myself. But little did I know that G-d has time for everyone. Once I accepted Jesus into my heart I understood that G-d does not operate in time and space, but instead he operates above this system.
Understanding G-d infinite love and power is amazing. But sometimes we don’t understand everything about G-d and why He decided to do things a certain way or form. But that’s OK, we don’t need to know it all. As believers we are called to do one thing, to have faith and trust. One of the best verses in the Bible that represents G-d’s plea to mankind and his willingness to help us understand is proverbs chapter 1 verses 20-23
The Call of Wisdom
20 Wisdom cries aloud in the street,
in the markets she raises her voice;
21 at the head of the noisy streets she cries out;
at the entrance of the city gates she speaks:
22 “How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple?
How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing
and fools hate knowledge?
23 If you turn at my reproof,[a]
behold, I will pour out my spirit to you;
I will make my words known to you.
So what stands out from this verse? For me I would say intimacy. I see G-d wants us to have wisdom and he loves us so much he can give it to us if we ask for it. G-d doesn’t want us to stay on one level and not go to the next, he wants us to grow, mature and especially to grow in wisdom and discernment.
The part where G-d says to not lean in our own understanding he’s talking about trusting Him. If we trust in the Lord, we cannot also depend upon our own ability to understand everything G-d is doing.
The mind cannot comprehend or figure out G-d… that is why when we surrender our lives to G-d, it’s a heart conversion not mind conversion.
First Corinthians 13:12 says, “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.” We only see part of the picture God is painting.
Many times as humans we so eagerly want to know the answers to everything, we are impatient in our lives and we don’t wait to let G-d lead us. What G-d is saying by telling us to not lean in our own understanding is to save us from self destruction. That’s because our limited understanding can easily lead us astray. Proverbs 16:25 says, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” When we choose to direct our lives according to what seems right to us, we often reap disaster.
Isaiah chapter 55 verse 8 G-d directly tells us not to worry so much, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.” That means that we shouldn’t spend our entire lives trying to figure out every single aspect of why things are the way they are, we should give our doubts, mistrust, and questions to the Lord.
Therefore, when you find yourself again trying to lean on your own understanding…remember that G-d knows all things and he understands that we want to know everything. But some things just must be either left alone, some things we have to pray about for understanding and other times we just have to let G-d do his work.
God bless everyone!
